Summary: The novel follows an American ambulance driver who is fighting on the Italian front. Henry soon develops a love for a beautiful English nurse. The story captures the journey of the two as they continue there affair throughout the events world war I.

Personal comments: I personally found it hard to get started on the novel. The beginning starts off slow but soon builds up. The story itself, however, is interesting as it is semi-autobiographical. The symbolism and sentence structure was amazing. It seemed so simple yet so complete and insightful. Overall it was a good read, as I defiantly did not think I was wasting my time reading the book.

* only read The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber

Rating: (🖤 🖤 🖤  🖤)

Page #: 37

Summary: Francis Macomber and his wife are on a Safari trip to Africa. The couple takes part in many activities, one of them being hunting. The hunt goes wrong and great tensions build as a result.

Personal comments:  I really enjoyed this piece! The story was so well developed and the flow of it was absolutely amazing.  The way Hemingway organized the story really did help with the flow, but also the overall effect of it. The symbolism and the overall message as well was extremely insightful and really had me thinking.

Future goals: This month I explored Hemingway’s writing as its been something I have wanted to do for a while now. I had a high expectation going into his writing but many of them were met. In the next month, I hope to read Hamlet and The Great Gatsby.

March:

Page #: 570

Summary: A story that takes place in War-torn France. It follows the efforts of two sisters as they both obey and rebel against the Nazi regime.

Personal comments: I LOVED this novel. It was a perfect mix of both emotion and action. Initially I was taunted by the size, however, I found myself soon wishing for more! The novel never dragged on and new things were being introduced yet previous things were still being solved. The ending left a few loose ends yet also tied up many of the mysteries.

Summary: Hamlet is in Denmark to mourn the death of his father, King Hamlet. Hamlet is both disappointed and disgusted by the marriage of his mother, Queen Gertrude, to his Uncle, King Hamlet’s brother, Claudius, who now has the throne. The story goes through Hamlets struggle to seek revenge.

Personal comments: This Shakespeare play is my FAVORITE! Hamlet is full of action yet deals with emotions that we all once in a while may feel. The characters are well developed and the story always keeps you on edge. In addition, I was able to see it preformed and that only furthered my love for the play.

Future goals:   I am proud of my reading this month.  Both of the books I read are ones that I love and will surely be recommending to others.  My page count per day also went up, which is something I am proud of. Next month I want to read a novel that deals with contemporary issues and another Shakespeare play.

April:

Page count per day: 10

The total number of pages read this month: 305

Summary: A coming of age story between Quentin and Margo. Margo goes missing one night and Quentin decides to go out looking for her.

Personal Comments: I honestly did not like this book. I felt as though the story just dragged on, and that all the hype built throughout the climax was for nothing considering the ending. The characters seemed to a bit undeveloped and I did not feel as though I had any connection to them, they seemed very simple. I have really wanted to read some of John Greens writing and thus picked this book up. I was however disappointed.

Future goals: My page count per day is honestly really low this month. April was a really low energy month for me and that may have just been because I wasn’t reading enough. In the month of May I plan on reading at least two young adult fiction novels.
